Srinagar, Oct 25 (KNO): In the wake of a deadly terror attack on army personnel in the Botapathri area of Baramulla district, security forces have launched a major operation, deploying drones and helicopters to track down the attackers.
According to the news agency — Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the incident, which took place late Thursday evening, claimed the lives of two soldiers and two porters initially, with another soldier succumbing to injuries on Friday afternoon, raising the death toll to five.
An official said that terrorists ambushed an army vehicle in Botapathri, leading to the deaths of soldiers Jeevan Singh and Kaisar Ahmed Shah, along with civilian porters Mushtaq Ahmed Chaudhary of Nowshera and Manzoor Ahmed Mir of Boniyar. The fifth casualty, a soldier who had been critically injured, passed away while receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, in response to the attack, security forces intensified search operations across the area, utilizing drones, helicopters, and increasing naka checkpoints, particularly in Tangmarg, the gateway to the tourist hub of Gulmarg.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha expressed his condolences and commitment to a strong response, stating, “Operation in progress. Sacrifice of our martyrs will not go in vain. Condolences to their families. Praying for speedy recovery of injured.” He added that he has spoken with top army officials and directed swift action to neutralize the terrorists.
In solidarity, the Indian Army’s Chinar Corps also paid tribute, posting on social media: “All ranks of the Chinar Corps salute the supreme sacrifices of the bravehearts, who laid down their lives in the line of duty.” The Chinar Corps extended their condolences and pledged support for the bereaved families-- (KNO)
